BAM, BAM and BAM
Grants, Freelance and Books

This publication hasn’t many followers yet, but I would like to open up submissions for poetry. For myself, I feel poetry is an awe-inspiring intermission from the everyday grind and also allows for critical thinking and learning about oneself. If you’re interested in sharing your poetry please email me at erika.sauter@outlook.com and I will add you as a writer.

I’ll be there. I registered today. I plan on saving cash by booking a flight on Priceline and skipping the hotel room and Couchsurfing instead.
Books
Have you written a book but you’re not sure if you have it in you to publish it? Here’s a great opportunity to see what you’ve got. The 2017 Metatron Prize is currently accepting submissions, but you’ve got to act fast as the deadline is April 30th.
Thanks to Charlotte Franklin for her recommendation of purchasing books from Thrift Books. They offer discounts and deals. The books I purchased cost $3.59 per book.
A field Guide for Immersion Writing, written by Robin Hemley. This book is packed full of information for writers interested in memoir, journalism and travel writing. I couldn’t put it down. I learned a lot of great stuff that I hadn’t learned even in formal post-secondary education, but nothing beats experience.
The Creative Guide to Research: How to Find What You Need Online and Offline, written by Robin Rowland is a thinking outside the box research guide. Published in 2000 it’s a bit outdated but the majority of the links I checked out from the book are still up and thriving. It also includes research strategies, interviewing techniques and networking for writers. It’s not something I would read cover to cover. It’s more of a tool when you need it.
With your help Penguin Random House will be donating books for children at no cost to you. All you have to do is choose from a huge selection of book excerpts and read!
Side Note
I spend one day per week searching for paid writing work and resources. There are so many it’s endless and I never get through them all. If there is something specific you’re interested in please let me know in a response, and if I come across it I will be sure to let you know!
