I think a lot more people experience anxiety and depression than we know. Sometimes it’s genetic and sometimes it’s environmental, and sometimes it’s temporary and situational but I think at some point we all do.
I was joking with a friend. I had written this story about panic attacks which I thought was good yet it fared poorly compared to my other stories. I was disappointed. I said to him, For real, tho. Who doesn’t have panic attacks? Because, ain’t that the truth. We’ve all been anxious at some point in our lives.
The thing is, people aren’t saying it. We’re convinced there’s this stigma that keeps us quiet but the stigma is that not enough people are being open and honest about it.
I’m grateful to hear you found a doctor who can relate with you and others who experience depression. It really is a game changer. I’ve gone to see lots of counselors in my time and I can always tell the ones who have been there and the ones who haven’t.
