I totally agree and it’s shitty, right? The world needs creativity, not how many stories you can churn out and how fast you can produce. I also feel this way about the internet. Yes! It’s awesome we can publish our own work, 24/7 for the world to read but at the same time writing has become content and because of that our creativity seems to lose both value and meaning.
My goal for 2018 was to stop writing for the media. Yes, I lost the income but I’m hopeful I’ll make it out on my own. The media isn’t the right place for me morally or creatively. I was tired of writing 500 words of shit that only fuels the disasters our world currently faces. There’s no such thing as chasing a lead or a true story anymore and that just didn’t work for me. I much prefer investing my time in writing more meaningful pieces and connecting with a positive community regardless of the unsteady income or popularity. If I believe in myself, if I feel confident, if I dedicate myself it will all fall into place.
