If you haven’t read any of Anne Lamott’s books I highly recommend doing so. In my opinion she’s the Gandhi of modern day literature. In her book Bird by Bird she writes, “You own everything that happened to you. Tell your stories. If people wanted you to write warmly about them, they should’ve behaved better.” I’m not certain if she means this in the literal sense, though I believe she does but what I’ve gotten from it is to honestly tell my story and be true to myself when I write.
