It does help and I hear what you’re saying. The media pays decent but the money wasn’t worth staying awake at night feeling morally wrong writing what was expected of me, and yes of course the lack of creativity that actually didn’t go into writing a story. Personal essays were my hobby back then. I used to believe in journalism so much but in the digital age and current politics, well that’s better left for writers who can sleep at night. I don’t even want to read the news anymore let alone write it.
Also, I live in a tiny town completely surrounded by cornfields with limited job opportunities, so there’s that. I actually applied to one place in the town square. I went through two interviews and they mailed, yes snail mailed me a letter stating I wasn’t qualified for the position. It was to make coffee and say hello to people when they came through the door. No, I do not have employment experience in this area but I make coffee and say hello to people every day. I am to the point I think where a 9–5 gig is the route I need to take. I just need to find a good fit.
Thanks for your advice!
