It took four antidepressants until I found one that worked for me. The worst part is you have to take them for four to six weeks to see if it’s the right one for you. That process takes months. I spent six months finding one that worked, adjusting dosages, etc. Oddly enough, I started taking the mood stabilizer Lamcital in February 2017 because the antidepressant was helping the depression and anxiety but the mania was still manic. I slowly increased until I got to 100 mg and I felt really good. The only side effect was heartburn which eventually faded away. Then I wanted to get off the Lexapro so we decreased that and upped the Lamcital and yeah- no, that was a disaster, so I’m I’m taking low doses of both and feel much better. I still feel depressed or manic here and there but by no means what I had experienced without medication.
