Wow! This is a great question. I really enjoy writing personal essays on my experience with Bipolar Disorder. I have a section titled 30 Days Of Depression on my publication where I share the stories I write. I think I enjoy personal essays because a lot of people aren’t as open as I am and while sharing my experiences may help others it helps me greatly when I hear someone say, I can relate.
As far as therapeutic, I think what works best for me is doodling and jotting words down. Merely thoughts about the day or affirmations of how I’d like to see myself handle situations or circumstances differently, or even just trial and error of what works for me and what doesn’t.
I wish you luck with your writing and would love to read what you come up with. Let me know if you publish anything or send me an email. erika.sauter@outlook.com.
